PRINCIPAL MESSAGE
Sr. Mary Shyamalie Fernando (RGS)
Good Shepherd Balika Maha Vidyalaya was founded in 1928, on the rich heritage and values of Good Shepherd Sisters, to educate children and young girls who were under their care. Gradually this school opened its doors to children of the neighbouring villages too. What was primarily an English medium school was converted into a Sinhala medium school after the take-over by the government in 1962.
At present, Good Shepherd Balika Maha Vidyalaya stands as one of the main schools in Wattala area, which warmly welcomes and educates girls from all strata of society. I am happy to be the current Principal of my Alma Mater and to dedicate myself to steer her along the path of success that my predecessors have ventured into.
Our wealth is our students - those who are with us at present: those who had been here in the past, as well as those who come in the future. Our main focus is to produce women who are spiritually and intellectually developed, disciplined and courteous enriched with sound knowledge and skills to face life with courage and confidence while contributing selflessly towards the betterment and building up of society. My staff and I, do our best not only to enhance their knowledge, but also to inculcate principles and values that would mould and shape their young lives to become Good Shepherdesses wherever they will be.
Character formation is one of our chief interests as we have students from diverse social backgrounds. We plan our curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities in order to bring out the best in our students so that they will have an opportunity to excel in their own field. We encourage their innovative and creative skills and provide them with ample opportunities that would empower them with life skills of the 21st century.
I am personally confident that with the guidance of our Shepherd Lord, the Shepherdians of Good Shepherd Balika Maha Vidyalaya will walk through the thick and thin of life's journey illumining the world with love and compassion. I greatly appreciate the services rendered by our academic and non-academic staff and value the support of the past pupils, parents and well-wishers.
